Fischli and Weiss´ Artwork (The Goetz Collection)

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Recently the Swiss art team, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, had a cool exhibition in Bergen. The artists are among the most influencing ones in Europe. Their artwork are characterized by easiness and irony. The exhibition includes photos, sculptures, videos, movies and installations.

In my opinion the most radical and elegant parody of the traditional art understanding is a piece they first showed in an group exhibition in New York in 1999. Three plates were leaning against the wall together with some tools and bowls laying around on the floor. The blocked room looked like a work site and first a week after the exhibition it was made known that this had been Weiss and Fischlis contribution to the show! All of the objects is made out of a light polyurethane foam. The perfect camouflage of the piece brings forward questions about the essence of art. Imitations are obviously, historically the nature of art and the artists allege that the piece don´t qualify as art.
