Parque Nacional Henri Pittier

8_1.jpgJust a few hours west of the Venezuelan capital of Caracas lies Puerto Colombia. This smal quiet fishing village is a great place to spend a week or two. It has the Cloud Forest (only exist here and in Indonesia) with it’s many thousands of plants, insects, amphibias, birds and other animals. There are jungel excursions every day with knowledgeable guides.

The restaurants and bars gives good value. I’ll recommend the seafood (offcourse). A beer costs 1.000 (Mil) Bolivares (2/3 USD). The boattraffic to other villages and untouched beaches are performed by the fishermen. It’s interesting to see the sugar- and cacaoplantations. Likewise surfing on the Karibien waves gives voltage and excitement (not that I ever really managed it). The music is around every corner and it is the Karibien salsa- and folktunes. There are also some cool reggae musicians in town. And do not forget to send my greetings to the cheerfull Irish trubadur Jimmi (I’m your fan). This bloke, in his mid 60’s, plays tunes of Bob Dylan etc. with an amazing treatment of his five-two strings guitar and his harmonica!
